25March, 2012
The Regional football association will hold its annual congress next Saturday at the Tamale sports stadium after the executive confirmed the participation of 30 clubs in this year’s division two league at a meeting on Saturday.
The 2011 edition of the division two league witnessed the participation of 45 clubs across the region that was won by Tamale Utrecht to participate in the division one league.
The list of clubs confirmed for participation included Golden Stars that was relegated from the division one league last year. Spartans FC will renew their participation in the league as FC Tamale now owned by a UK business icon.
Last year’s finalist Dynamos FC will be hoping to annex the regional championship this year but will face stiff opposition from veterans, Galaxy FC and Tamale Allstars. Liberty Babies and Sawla United that reached the semis last year will be hoping to reach far again in the competition for another outing in the MTN FA cup competition.
The RFA sources revealed that the Tamale Metropolis dominates the list with 11 clubs whilst 19 other clubs are spread across the rest of the 21 districts in the region.
Meanwhile the executive committee has instituted an adhoc committee to design a promotion and relegation criteria and additional regulations for the organisation of the division two and division three leagues.
The committee included TUFA technical director and Head coach Arc. Jawhari Baba-Duah and Muazz Choo respectiviely and the RFA vice chairman, Ahmed Baako Alhassan.
