TUFA BOW OUT OF MTN FA CUP AFTER DEFEAT TO HEARTS

Tamale Utrecht failed in their bid to join Nania FC as teams from the lower tier division to make history in the MTN FA Cup after losing 3-0 to Ghana Premier league heavyweights Heart of Oak at the Tema artificial turf.

Accra Hearts of Oak therefore reached the semi-finals of the 2015 MTN FA Cup after the victory and will now wait Premier League rivals Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars as well as Medeama SC who could all qualify for the semis.

The Phobians killed off the game with three incredible first-half goals and Utrecht providing virtually no answers in attack.

Injury returnee Emmanuel Hayford powered Herbert Addo’s side into the lead with a 12th minute striker before Eric Kumi doubled the lead for the Phobians.

Gerald Wellington then scored his second goal in two games for Hearts when he clinically finished off a move a minute before the break.

Coach Herbert Addo's side are the only team yet to concede a goal got to this stage of the competition after eliminating Elimina Sharks (1-0), Bolga Man City (3-0) and Afienya City (1-0) in the Round of 64, 32 and 16 respectively.

Heart of Oak beat TUFA in the round of 16 two seasons ago at the Tamale Stadium, but the Tamale based division one side eliminated premier league sides, Bechem United, B.A United and Starke FC enrouted to their first quarter finals appearance in four attempts.
