TUFA INTO SECOND ROUND OF MTN FA CUP

Tamale Utrecht Football Academy progressed to the next round of the MTN FA Cup after edging Tumu Happy Stars 4-1 at the Academy Park.

After a goalless draw in the first half, Utrecht took the game to their opponents and goals from Iddrisu Osman, new signing and former RTU, Kotoko player, Mohammed Fataw Owen, and a brace from Razak Patrick, ensured their qualification to the second round.

The preliminary round of the MTN FA Cup competition kicked off on Wednesday 28th January. This round of the competition involves some second and third tier sides with the Premier leagues set to join in a Round of 64 draw which will be held on February 9.

Speaking after the match, the head coach, Baba Nuhu Malam said he was happy with the results though the players would have to work extra harder as they await announcement of the start of the Division One League. He said, “We should be ready for the league, the league will definitely start and we are aware of the task ahead,” he told tufaghanafc.com

“We played some high profile friendlies and i believe we have prepared so well to compete with experience sides in this Zone.”

Tamale Utrecht would be looking to improve in the competition this year after exciting at the first round last season.
