RTU PLAYERS ON STRIKE OVER UNPIAD WAGEES
20 February, 2013
Players of premiership side Real Tamale United are on strike and will not honour the weekend Glo premier league against Amidaus Professionals on Saturday over unpaid wages as gathered by tufaghanafc.com.
Tufaghanafc.con can confirm that the club’s technical team and supporters were left disappointed at the Tamale sports stadium on Wednesday when the playing body refused to turn out for a scheduled friendly match against Galaxy FC. Spanish Coach Carlos Alberto expressed disgust at the players’ attitude since he programmed to use the friendly to sharpen his rough edges ahead of the weekend resumption of the second round of the Glo Premier league.
Real Tamale United is glued at the bottom of the Ghana top flight league with just five points from 15 matches and threatened with relegation.
However, just before the Glo sponsorship money hit the club coffers to reduce the club financial burden, all may not be rosy for the pride of the north that suffered similar player boycott in the last match of the first round when they threatened not to make an appearance on the field.
The issue of player boycott of matches over wages is not peculiar to what is happening now in RTU as tufaghanafc.com checks reveal that, players of Spanish side Rayo Volcano in March 2011 had planned not to take on to the pitch against Valladolid in the Segunda division over unpaid wages. Also in April 2012, players of Ghana premier side New Edubiase boycotted training over unpaid salaries which according to sources were running to four months in arrears.
