15 January, 2013
Diminutive striker Adam Abdul Basit stroke on the half hour mark from close range to secure Tamale Utrecht first win in competitive matches at the Kasalgu complex when they beat Bazooka FC 1-0 on Tuesday in the MTN FA Cup.
The Kasalans enjoyed an excellent game in the first half and could have gone into the interval 2-0 up but for Vincent Deyi’s strike that hit the crossbar on 40th minute.
The visitors were stronger in the second half cutting through the ailing TUFA midfield but failed to make any impact at goal.
The introduction of Baba Mubarik for Abdulai Alhassan however changed the game around in TUFA’s favour as the youngster became a constant threat in the Bazooka backline and drawing thunderous applause and cheers from the fans.
Tamale Utrecht has thus advanced to the round of 64 in the FA Cup where they will be joined by all 16 premier clubs for the next round of competition.
Tamale Utrecht central defender, Taurik Musah was voted man of the match.
In the other FA Cup match Guan United beat Galaxy FC on penalties 4-3 after a stalemate in regulation time at the Tamale sports stadium annex.
