GHANA VOTED FOR LIONEL MESSI
7 January, 2013
The head coach of the senior national team Akwasi Appiah and the captain of the Black stars Asamoah Gyan both voted Lionel Messi to clinch his fourth straight Ballon D’Or award on Monday night in Zurich.
The Ghanaian duo however voted differently for the second and third positions. Whilst the National team coach voted for Van Persie and Christiano Ronaldo in that order, Skipper Asamoah Gyan voted for Yaya Toure and Wayne Rooney in the second and third positions respectively.
Messi had a vote as captain for Argentina and did not select Ronaldo in his top three at all, opting for Iniesta, Xavi and Sergio Aguero.
Messi’s rival Christiano Ronaldo did not get favour from his team captain Iker Cassilas who picked Sergio Ramos ahead of the Portuguese star, perhaps hinting at why the Portuguese ace felt his club were not fully supportive of his Ballon d’Or bid.
Coach of AFCON Defending champions, Herve Renard voted for Lionel Messi, Xavi Alonso and Adres Iniesta and captain of the Holland national team Wesley Sneidjer went in for Robin Van Persie, Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo in that order.
