TUFA-JHS: End of term results

13 December, 2012

The first term of the 2012/2013 academic year was rounded up by an evaluation meeting and reading of results among students. Overall conclusion was that each and every student improved, however at the same there is much room for improvement.

At the start of the academic year a number of interventions were implemented in order to reach better results, e.g. extra classes, monitoring and reporting on weak students, extra English class and group work. “The new approach starts to yield results and now it is important to continue the increase in results”, says Social Director Jolanda Goes.

Big surprise of the term was Aaron Kyiwie, without a doubt, who moved from postion 11 to 5. “I started to do individual rehearsals by reading a passage and then closing my book and asking myself questions about what I read”, gave the young student as an explanation for his performance. Social Director named Aaron as a role model and encouraged his colleagues to also hit a spot in the top 5.

Another role model is Mohammed Rashid, who worked incredibly hard last trimester. “Unfortunately your results don’t show yet, but I am sure that very soon you will yield progress if you continue this way”, said Social Director as an encouragement. “Rashid is very committed and a lot of students can take him as an example.”

In the mean time TUFA-JHS teaching staff came together to formulate interventions for next trimester, which comprise of more class tests and parent involvement among others.
