TUFA, COMFORT FOUNDATION CELEBRATE WORLD HEPATITIS DAY

9 August, 2012

On the 28th of last month Comfort Foundation celebrated the annually World Hepatitis day.
The celebration of 2012 was done in collaboration with several schools in the region including Tamale Utrecht Football Academy. The morning program consisted of a debate between St. Charles Senior High School and Tamale Girls Senior High school. The participating students tried to convince each other to vote either for or against the statement that Hepatitis B is more dangerous than HIV/AIDS. After the debate a member of Comfort Foundation gave a talk and showed a video to educate the audience. Apart from the students from the participating schools, Comfort Foundation also invited students from Dabokpa and Vittinn Technical schools as well as the students from TUFA Junior High School. In the afternoon a mini-tournament was held on the premises of Tamale Utrecht Football Academy. The community of Kasalgu was invited to watch the matches. After the second match the Regional Health Promotor, Madame Yakubu Rahinathu, educated the people on the basics of Hepatitis B, the treatment and how to protect one another against the disease.
Luckily, the program was finished just before the rain started. Comfort Foundation looks back on a successful celebration of this years World Hepatitis day, which was made possible in collaboration with Tamale Utrecht Football Academy.

Comfort Foundation Ghana is a Non-Governmental Organization which focuses on the creation of awareness of Hepatitis B within the Northern Region of Ghana. Apart from the foundation placing its emphasis on education, it also screens and vaccinated students and individuals at a subsidized price. Apart from screening and vaccination alone we also provide counselling to people who are Hepatitis B positive. We have a possibility for them to consult a doctor and we provide them all the necessary information needed for quality care.

Through their work Comfort Foundation Ghana and Tamale Utrecht Football Academy became familiar with each other. Comfort Foundation Ghana is always looking for new ways to reach out to the people of Tamale and Northern Ghana as a whole. Since TUFA was also interested in reaching out to the community, the plan of a collaboration with Comfort Foundation was made. Football is a great and entertaining way to gather people. The collaboration with Comfort Foundation makes it possible to educate football fans about Hepatitis B and about ways to protect themselves from this disease which affects 1 in10 Ghanaians. We hope that the future will continue to bring a fruitful collaboration between Tamale Utrecht Football Academy and Comfort Foundation Ghana.
