POOR OFFICIATING DENIES TUFA MIDDLE LEAGUE PLAY-OFF

1 August, 2012

Sunyani Based referee Ato Mends bad decision of refusal of a goal scored by Tamale Utrecht against Yeji Juventus on Wednesday, denied the away team the win to feature in this year’s middle league play-off.

The Kasalans had won 3-0 against Upper East United in Tamale a week ago to salvage the club from relegation and were hoping for a surprise appearance in the middle league needing a win in the Yeji match whilst hoping for a draw in Guan United and Bazooka FC encounter in Tamale.

However, after playing 60 minutes of the game without any goal, the visitors shot ahead after Jafaru A. Somed outpaced his marker with the ball into the penalty area and delivered a pass to Vincet Deyi whose kick was blocked by the goalkeeper for Jafaru to connect with the rebound into the net. But referee Ato Mends got the entire stadium baffled with his decision to discount the goal.

Alhassan Kalusha’s skilful play in midfield caught the attention of the home fans with his dazzling moves and creativity that created problems for Juventus in midfield. However the midfielder’s failure to hold on to his control in the game gave the home team some penetration. TUFA thus lost possession in the game and struggled to contain the raid in their goal area by the attacking force of Juventus.

Captain Mohammed Alhassan got his hand to the ball in the penalty area in one of those attempts to play away a ball from danger, and the referee was quick to the spot for the home team that converted expertly to give them the lead.

Coach Muniru Aziz bid to secure parity and win the game, introduced striker Adam Abdul Basit for Alhassan Kalusha but had his plans jolted when his dependable defender Mohammed Alhassan was stretchered off the field after sustaining an injury.

The visitors appeal for a penalty on Adam Abdul Basit who was brought down in the penalty area was ignored by the referee and the game brought to an end after 2 minutes of added time.
