WIENCO DENIES ACADEMY DISSOLUTION
4 June, 2012
The Chief Executive Officer of Wienco Academy in Tamale, Mr Iddrisu Ewuntomah has denied reports that the academy has been disbanded.
The CEO was reacting to local media reports over the weekend that his outfit has been dissolved following lack of support from the sponsor, Wienco Ghana Limited.
According to him the academy is on a temporal break and will resume in a fortnight with a justify exercise to select players not older than 13 years old as its second batch of recruitment.
‘Our first batch that played a friendly match against Tamale Utrecht Football Academy and won 1-0 will be transferred to Gomoa Fete where they will continue their career in the Feynoord Academy in Gomoa Fete’ Mr. Iddrisu said.
The academy is attached to the SOS school at Dungu where the players receive formal education and trains at the Tamasco field. But their absence from training for the past week has triggered speculations that, Weinco has pulled out from the academy attributed to a seemingly lost of interest by the sponsor.
It would be recalled that Wienco pulled out as commercial sponsor of Real Tamale United last year following RTU poor performance in the premier league, a situation that could derail his interest from continuing with other smaller initiatives.
However, Mr. Iddrisu who spoke to this reporter remained resolute to his earlier claims that Wienco has not severe ties with the academy which could have led to a break up.
