TUFC division one survival mission boosted
Berekum Arsenal survival in the Ghanaian premiership after the last round of matches were played today, has boosted the survival of relegation threatened division one clubs in the Zone 1.
The Gunners lost heavily, 4-0 to Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium but a late equaliser by Chelsea against Mighty Jets saved their blushes. Mighty Jets and Bechem United will now join Wassaman United to the division one next season.
The relegation format of teams in the division one league has some dependency on the outcome of the premier league and in this case, teams ending the zonal league at the 6th position in Zone 1A and Zone 1B respectively would have gone into a play-off to determine a fifth club to join the last two clubs in each zone to relegation in the event that the two zone 1 clubs, Arsenal and Bechem United were relegated.
However the survival of Arsenal and the relegation of Bechem United will now condemn to relegation only teams ending the Zone 1A and Zone 1B at the 7th and 8th positions respectively.
Tamale Utrecht Football Academy is currently lying 6th on the zone 1A and would have avoided a play-off if they ended the league in this position. A win in their next home match will keep the team in the division one league next season.
‘I monitored this week Glo-premier league matches with much interest especially the Arsenals and Mighty Jets Matches and the results were favourable for us as a club that is trying to avoid a play-off.
