Ghana FA set to approve league for soccer academies

A novelty national Academy League will kick start next season, subject to approval from the Ghana Football Association.

The move according to the proponents is to get a consistent league for the many football academies sprouted up in the country.

Ghana have struggled to qualify for international junior competitions over the past few years.

Over 30 academies including Red Bull Academy, Tom Venom, C.K Gyamfi, Datus, Free soccer academy among others will be involved in the novelty league if modalities are approved the by Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

“We have had fruitful discussions with the teams and they are very excited about the move. What is left is for the GFA to sit with us and approve,” Ghana FA technical director Francis Oti Akenteng said.

“I have been shocked at the high interest of academies and I sincerely believe if we start with this league, it will go a long way to unearth more talents for the various national teams.”
