NORTHERN REGION WINS TUFA U-13 COMPETITION

Northern Region- Group 1 (Tamale district) today beat Upper West region 3-0 to win the first inter regional U-13 competition organised by Tamale Utrecht Football Academy to select players not older than 13 years old.

About 144 players were presented by Northern region, Upper West and Upper East regions to demonstrate their skill on the field for assessment by the TUFA technical team who were assisted by Coach Augustine Arhinful and Mohammed Gargo.

The winners made away with three hundred and fifty cedis cash award whilst the runner up took home two hundred and fifty cedis. The other four groups smiled away with one hundred cedis each.

A final list of 25 players is expected to enter the academy house in May, 2012 after successfully passing a medical examination.

The Chief Executive Officer of TUFA Alhassan Abdulai was enthused about the turn out and the exhibition of talents by the little stars. Addressing the players during the closing session, the CEO mentioned that for the limited number of players the academy would be housing, all the players that turned up for the 2 day exercise would have been selected due to the depth of talent exhibited.

‘The selection exercise does not end today, for that matter if you are not lucky to gain a place today, then another opportunity may fall your way tomorrow.’ CEO noted.

Augustine Arhinful who was full of praise for the young lads asked them to take their education serious since that was the only way they could work with academies that are now springing up in the country and entreated on them to be disciplined to enable them achieve their dreams. He did not forget to commend Alhassan Abdulai for the strong initiative he has made by setting up the academy to develop talents in the north.

Technical Director of TUFA, Mr. Jawhari Baba-Duah thanked the almighty for bringing the programme to a successful end and commended the players for the spirit of sportsmanship exhibited. He noted that, the players selected would go through medical examinations before they are passed to enter the academy house in May.
