TUFC EARN POINT IN EPIC AWAY DUEL

19 February, 2012

Tamale Utrecht FC fought back to draw 1-1 in Wa against Bazooka FC in one of their difficult division one matches.

The Tamale lads having lost 1-0 in their last home match against Guan United in a local derby embarked on an image redemption mission and shrugged off stiff opposition from their host that had come close to premiership entry on some occasions.

Bazooka FC started the game strongly in attack but was easily contained by TUFC in defence marshalled by Captain Mohammed Alhassan. The visitors also looked composed in midfield anchored by Yussif Abdul Basit and Iddrisu Osman. The host looked the better side to score in the first half but had their resultant kicks intercepted by the TUFC defence.

Back from recess Coach Mu-azz Choo replaced Alhassan Salam for young and talented Yakubu Alidu.

The stalemate was broken in 75thminute when TUFC goalkeeper Sulemana Firdaus was beaten by a kick delivered from the centre half of the field. The match travelled with little hope for TUFC fans who were mainly Tamale students from the University for Development Studies, until Jafaru A Somed run into the penalty area and delivered a shot for on-lurking midfielder Yakubu Alidu to connect home for the equaliser in the 85thminute.

Tahir Moomin Benzema who was substituted for Iddrisu Osman in the 87thminute failed to earn TUFC that vital win after he shot wide in the penalty area with just the goalkeeper to beat.
