UPPER EAST UTD BATTLE BACK TO DENY TUFC WIN

5 February, 2012

Upper East united today rallied back from a goal down to beat Tamale Utrecht FC 3-1 at Bolgatanga in the week 2 of the division one league.

Defender Adam Ibrahim put the visitors ahead after 10 minutes when he tapped in from a Jafaru A. Somed cross.

However the host who reeled under some pressure from the Tamale lads came back into the game and equalised from a free kick just outside the penalty area after their player was brought down by right back Fatawu Yakubu.

In the second half, TUFC right back Fatawu Yakubu who struggled for most part of the game again gave away a penalty after fouling an opponent in the goal area. Goalkeeper Firdaus Sulemana could not save the resultant penalty that put the host in the lead.

Alhassan Salam was substituted for Yussif A. Basit whilst Alidu Yakubu came in for Fatawu Yakubu. Earlier Alidu Mohammed Awal was brought in for injured Adam Ibrahim.

The host who also made some few changes in their set up took absolute control of the game in the second half and missed scoring chances to increase their goal tally.

TUFC fought back in some few occasions and was denied a penalty after Vincent Dey was brought down in the penalty area. The host capitalised on the referee’s waive for continuous play and broke away on a counter to score the third goal in injury time.

The referees were immediately besieged after the final whistle by players of TUFC after what the visitors perceived was bad officiating from the officials.
