Tamale Utrecht FC fought back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Yeji Juventus on Sunday in their maiden division one league appearance.

The visitors took the lead in the game after a mix up in the TUFC defence gave away a ball that was shot into the net.

TUFC failed to score from the numerous chances in the opponent’s goal area after subjecting the Yeji lads to their own half in most part of the first half.

Striker Nana Ackon had an opportunity to put TUFC on level terms but his resultant kick was wasteful.

In the second half, struggling midfielder Alhassan Kalusha and Nana Ackon were substituted for Alidu Yakubu and Alidu Mohammed Awal. TUFC continued their dominance over the visitors and was rewarded in the 65thminute when Jafaru A. Somed lashed onto a cross from Tuarik Musah to cancel Juventus lead.

Jafaru grabbed a brace in stoppage time when he converted from the spot for TUFC second goal after speedster Vincent Dey was brought down in the penalty area.

The match was witnessed by about 2000 spectators in the 21000 capacity Tamale Sports stadium.

Speaking to tufaghanafc.com, Assistant coach Muniru Aziz admitted playing a difficult match, ‘If we had converted our chances in the first half the score line   would have been very wide. We played better but then had to struggle to achieve the results.’ He continued ‘the substitutions in midfield also opened up the packed defence of our visitors to enable to us win.’ He concluded.
